M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering

The Masters Course in Electrical Engineering (CMEE) of the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering (PPGEE) of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) is a presential course with a minimum duration of 12 months and a maximum duration of 30 months. In order to obtain the title of M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the PPGEE the following is required:

  • Conclusion of 24 credits in subjects. All program subjects have a week load of 4 hours, duration of 17 weeks, and correspond to 4 credits. For the CMEE there are no mandatory subjects, although they must be completed with the agreement of the student's supervisor. The 24 credits should be concluded in 18 months and a minimum arithmetic average grade of 7,0 (out of 10,0) is necessary so that the student may proceed to the dissertation defense.
  • Approval in a foreign language proficiency exam. The foreign language exam may be in English, French, Spanish or German.

The Dissertation Project should be elaborated by the student together with his supervisor and should be forwarded to the PPGEE Board and the defense should be performed in a public session until the 12th month of enrollment on the course.
  • Approval in the activity "Pesquisa Orientada" ("Supervised Research"). The student should register in the activity Supervised Research after approval in the activity Dissertation Project and should continue registering in such activity in each term until the defense of the dissertation
  • Publication of a paper in a scientific conference. As a result of his work, the student should publish a paper in a well recognized national or international conference. If, until the conclusion of the dissertation, the student has not been able to publish a paper, he may submit it to the PPGEE Board, which will nominate a special committee to evaluate the paper and decide if the student may proceed to the dissertation defense.
  • Approval of the Dissertation by an evaluation committee. As a result of his work, each student should elaborate a dissertation that will be forwarded to the PPGEE Board by his supervisor, carry out the public defense and obtain the approval by the evaluation committee that will be nominated by the PPGEE Board.
  • Homologation of the dissertation by the PPGEE Board. After the approval of the dissertation by the committee, the student should make the necessary recommended adjustments and the supervisor should forward the final version of the dissertation to the PPGEE Board for homologation.
The student's supervisor is nominated by the PPGEE Board when the student is accepted as a regular student. However, the student may suggest a possible supervisor when filling out the application form. The nomination of the supervisor for each accepted student is done depending on the availability of the supervisor among all faculty members approved by the PPGEE Board to conduct activities in the Graduate Program. A certain uniformity is desirable in the number of students per supervisor. It is the supervisor's task to decide the dissertation topic of the student in common agreement with him.
