Financing and Scholarships

UFBA is a federal public agency and, by the principles of the Brazilian Constitution, offers all of its Stricto Sensu postgraduate courses without payment of any consideration or costs of any nature, such as tuition fees. However, additional or supplementary costs are not covered by the legal nature of the institution, such as food, transportation, housing, etc., or other expenses directly or indirectly associated with the development of the various academic activities of each student. The student himself must cover such additional or supplementary costs.

To support some academic activities, the Brazilian government, through the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), makes financial resources available through the Postgraduate Support Program (PROAP), which is intended to provide better conditions for the training of human resources and for the production and deepening of knowledge in stricto sensu postgraduate courses, maintained by public higher education institutions. The PPGEEC is annually awarded a portion of these resources, which are used to, among other things, support the PPGEEC's operations, maintenance of various items, and support some academic activity demands. The allocation of PROAP resources is assessed and deliberated by the PPGEEC Board based on requests from the Program Coordination or faculty members. Faculty members constantly seek other sources of resources and financing by submitting projects to funding agencies or private companies.

Scholarships

The PPGEEC has scholarship quotas from funding agencies to provide

Agência de Fomento Bolsas de Mestrado Bolsas de Doutorado
CAPES 11 15
FAPESB Duas anualmente Duas anualmente

The selection and allocation of scholarship students is carried out by the PPGEEC Scholarship Committee, which is the program's board. To apply for a scholarship, the student must indicate this when applying for one of the vacancies in each selection notice for new regular students, and there will be no other opportunity to apply. Scholarships are allocated based on the availability or vacancy of fellowships. To be eligible for a scholarship, the candidate must meet all the requirements established by the respective funding agency and the performance criteria established by the PPGEEC. During the period of use of the scholarship, the student undertakes to comply with all regulatory and monitoring acts established by the funding agency and the performance criteria established by the PPGEEC.

In addition to the PPGEEC scholarship quotas, UFBA has been raising scholarships annually with the CNPq and making them available to master's and doctoral students through internal institutional notices with their requirements. Another institutional action is the availability of scholarships from its resources for students in vulnerable situations, as well as internal institutional notices with their requirements.
